The Newaygo County Career- Tech Center serves high school juniors & seniors.  There are 15 programs designed to get students started in a career.

Construction Trades is one of 15 programs and follows a particular order of business (listed below)  Students will have the opportunity to guide their own learning.  depending on their chosen path, students can earn many credentials along the way that will help them to obtain their desired career.

 

Daily Order of Business

  • Sponge Activity as students are arriving at different times

    • Computers can be used to complete daily warm-ups

  • Opening Circle (One Good Thing & Rachels Challenge)

  • Lecture/Lesson

    • Answer Questions & Clarify Online Components

      • Deliver Lesson for those who chose not to do online exercise

      • Dismiss online coursework completers to practical exercises

  • Practical Exercises

    • Hands on Activities

  • Reflection Circle (Use Daily Stems) If unknown, use “today I learned…”

  • Sponge Activity

    • Computers can be used to complete daily exercises before dismissals.

  • Week 2 Focus – Safety Intro & OSHA 10

  • Week 3 Focus – Safety Training Local Power Tools

  • Week 4 Focus – Identification of project need.

  • Week 5 Focus – Developing & Interpreting Plans & Specs

  • Week 6 Focus – Floor & Wall Framing

  • Week 7 Focus – Rafter Framing

  • Week 8 Focus – Exterior Finishes

  • Week 9 Focus – Presentation of Completed Project

    • Weekly Goals & Focus Identified

    • Delivery of Instruction Group A (Group B joins Parapro for Practical exercises)

  • Wednesday

    • Delivery of Instruction Group B (Group A joins Parapro for Practical exercises)

  • Thursday

    • Practical Exercises

  • Friday

    • Practical Exercises & Reflection of Weekly Goals & Lesson

 

Notes:

  • Students will have access to content studies online to complete on their own

    • Worksheets must be completed with 100% accuracy to bypass Tues/Wed Lesson

    • Students who complete the worksheet have the option to participate in the lesson or move on to independent study (Codes etc.) or move on to a practical application exercise.

  • Students will be assessed in essential competency areas throughout the week

    • Evaluation/assessment days will be identified to the students

    • Essential competency areas evaluated will also be addressed

  • Remind app

    • will be used to provide weekly targets Sunday Nights/Monday Mornings

    • will be used for call-ins for students who will not be in attendance.

    • Will be used as a parent communication tool

  • Google Classroom

    • Primary instructional home base
